Thai Herbal Massage

Thai Massage is over 2000 years old, and is a great technique for relaxing the body and the mind. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is seen as being very good for relieving physical problems such as back pain, tense shoulders and neck, stiffness, poor posture, indigestion and sciatica as well as mental health issues like stress and lethargy.

This technique uses a ‘Thai Herbal Heat Pack’ comprised of fresh herbs wrapped in a muslin cloth. The herbal pack is then steamed to release the potent qualities of the herbs. These hot herbal compresses, known as prakhop, are then systematically pressed over the body. They drive heat into skin and muscles, loosening tension dramatically and chase away the cold damp which can often linger in the body, especially during Winter.

Each pack is freshly made prior to being treated using herbs specific to the individual’s needs. This ensures the treatment is tailored to each client’s requirements, leaving the body is energised and balanced. Should you wish to, the herb packs can be taken away after the treatment, where they can be dried and kept to remind you of this truly therapeutic experience.

This massage is performed fully clothed or wrapped in a sheet, depending on the thickness of the clothing. No oils are used in this treatment and it is very different to the traditional western style of massage. The technique involves putting gentle but firm pressure on the body with the herbal heat packs, as well as relaxing stretching of the limbs and back. In this way it works effectively on skin, muscle, the organs and the skeletal structure. The TCM philosophy believes that blood and lymph circulation is increased and toxins are removed from tissues.

The Thai Herbal packs are traditionally used as a part of Thai Massage.
