Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is a specialty here at Anatomy in Chorlton, Manchester and it is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness and sore shoulders. Using specific strokes, a Deep Tissue Massage is both powerful and vigorous to get to the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
It is used to release chronic patterns of muscle tension in the body by using slower strokes with a more direct deep pressure, or frictions which is applied across the grain of the muscles.
It helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue, using a technique called deep transverse frictions, which may cause some soreness for a short while after the treatment, but will leave you feeling better than ever after a few days.
Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:
- Chronic pain
- Limited mobility
- Recovery from injuries
- Repetitive strain injury
- Postural problems
- Osteoarthritis pain
- Muscle tension or spasm
- And there is some supporting evidence for its help with fibromyalgia
