Pilates and Core Strengthening

Pilates is a mind body conditioning exercise program that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall central core stability and posture for the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries including lower back, groin, hip and knee pain, arthritis and neck and shoulder pain. Additional benefits of Pilates include improved quality of movement, improved posture, a longer more streamlined body, a stronger and more flexible spine, improved sense of joint awareness, toned abdominal muscles and reduced stress levels. It is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Our classes are based on the traditional Pilates method and are taught by our physiotherapist with an expert knowledge of pathology to aid your rehabilitation. Pilates matwork exercises consist of strengthening, stretching and mobility whilst concentrating on maintaining a central core of stability in the lumbo-pelvic region.

The traditional Pilates repertoire breaks down exercises into achievable stages, gradually building up strength and flexibility and with the aim of progressing to normal functional movement to aid rehabilitation.

You will need to have a 1-2-1 session prior to class attendance so that you can learn the basics of the Pilates and a couple of exercises prior to commencing the class. There will be a maximum of 6 people per class so that our physiotherapist can check that you have correct alignment and technique.

Pilates classes are run by our trained physiotherapist  on a Tuesday Evening at 6.30pm (beginners), and 7.30pm (intermediate), Wednesday at 1pm (beginners) and Wednesday at 12noon (advanced).   We are also currently offering 1:2:1 Pilates sessions at Anatomy Manchester.
